Hi there!

It's been a while (well, just a month shy of an entire year) since I sent the last update about fonts, so for our first email this 2024, let's run through some of the firsts in my type design journey that has gotten me busy these past months:

First open-source font

Version 1.0 of Amakan is now an open-source free font with the help of Tunera Type Foundry! Comes in three updated styles. Grab it at tunera.xyz/fonts/Amakan 🆓

First custom type project

In collaboration with Jo Malinis, I had the opportunity to work on the font engineering of the custom typeface for And A Half's branding project, Alluyon Coffee 👨‍💻 We'll post more about this soon on Instagram!

(And within the duration of this freelance gig, I also applied and got my first full-time job as a brand designer at And A Half 🥳)

First Type Fair Philippines

Honored to have been part of the roster of speakers at the inaugural Type Fair Philippines! Held last December, we walked through the conception and process of my shy, variable typeface, Makahiya 🌿

First jeepney-inspired

With one of our Filipino road icons facing an uncertain future, I released my work-in-progress of Reklamo, a variable typeface based on chamfered jeepney decals. Download at gum.co/Reklamo 📢

It has been almost 4 years since I released my first font through this platform. After much hesitation and contemplation, I've finally decided to shift my handle from "johndavidmaza" to simply "jadmaza" using my nickname, Jad 👋

Apart from feeling more cohesive moving forward in my design practice, it also shortens the URL by 6 characters! With this adjustment, if some links are not working properly on my Gumroad site, please let me know by replying to this email 🙏

I'm also aware that having done this will also affect how the products can be searchable, so please help spread the news! Share our fonts using the updated link, or by their "gum.co/" shortlinks 🍰
